Is Apple still a computer company?

Saturday, September 10th, 2005, by Nate

1. With Mac OS X for x86 on the loose, many are predicting that Apple will just release the OS for all PCs.
2. Even if OS X stays on “Macintosh” x86 computers, Apple is not going to be doing much engineering on the boards. They can just pick up generic PC parts now. (Xavier points [...]

Wordpress Blog on home mac

Thursday, August 18th, 2005, by Nate

I have relatively speedy DSL (512 mbps upload) and a nice Beige G4 1GHz to use as a server (although it only has 10BT… should I put in a 10/100BT card?) so I decided to host a blog.
The instructions are here. It’s really easy, even though I don’t have a static IP, I was able [...]

The Great Escape

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005, by Nate

I nearly lost $60 bucks by clicking the mouse.
So I’m trying to troubleshoot my mac, who seems to have wake from sleep problems occasionally (latest Tiger release 10.4.2). I sort of arbitrarily decide that it must be my firewire drive causing the problem, and I download the Oxford Firmware Flasher here. I dawdle around, open [...]

A dashboard addict : 76 is a record

Thursday, August 11th, 2005, by linathael

One of hardmac.com readers sent us a screen capture of his desktop, featuring 76 widgets running simultaneously… the side effect of this widget addiction is the RAM usage: 2GB.

So being a widget fan has a price… but maybe it’s time to enjoy it since prices on RAM are so low right now ;)

OSX on PS3: a possibility or a reality?

Thursday, August 4th, 2005, by linathael

In an interview with Impress PC Watch, Ken Kutaragi, President of Sony Computer Entertainment, was reporting that Sony may preinstall Linux on the optional PS3 hard drive, to allow the PS3 to function more like a general computer instead of just as a standard gaming console. Later on it was also mentioned that OSX and [...]

Forget about OSX on Intel, here is the real WWDC 2005 scoop!

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005, by moose

Well, everybody has been so focused on a minor issue, namely that Apple is (u)nixing PPC chips in favor of Intel’s x86 processors that they all missed the one and only important bit of the WWDC 2005 Keynote.

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005, by kurisu

Vodafone-802SE users rejoyce ! I have found the way to get Tiger’s Address Book.app to :

1 show the caller ID
2 send SMS
3 dial numbers

And all it took was a quick trip to Salling Clicker’s Forums.

Of Bluetooth, iSync and Japanese Phones, Part Three

Friday, May 6th, 2005, by kurisu

It’s now been officially a week since I’ve started to toy with Tiger. While I won’t comment on all the bugs in Mail, Spotlight or the Finder, I’ll give my thoughts on the upgraded iSync, and how it changed my life in the land of capsule hotels.
