Infoworld review the MacBook Air and they pretty much like it

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008, by moose

The title sums it up pretty well.
Paul Venezia bought an 1.8GHz PATA drive Air and he writes one of the most balanced reviews I’ve seen on the net since Apple announced its new “laptop”.
The MacBook Air is not perfect, but it sure is attractive and functional. If you’re looking for a desktop replacement system, [...]

Aperture 2 sports an image processing plugin architecture

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008, by moose

A couple days ago I posted about major changes to RAW support and concluded by this:
That seems weird, unless you consider a system that would work as “plugins” for RAW files, allowing to easily add/update support for RAW formats, maybe even choose which RAW decoder you want to use in Aperture.
Well, looks like [...]

Oh my! Aperture 2.0 is out and it looks like Apple listened to users!

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008, by moose

I just saw that on my iPhone (and yes, the Apple website is quite usable on an iPhone using EDGE), Aperture 2.0 is out and the list of “100+ new features” makes apparent that Apple has been listening to users.
Check it out.
My favorites at first glance are:

All-in-one Inspector and HUD
Metadata entry shortcut
All Projects view

So the 10.5.2 Leopard update is out and… it brings a number of changes, including
RAW Image
Adds RAW image support for several cameras, as detailed in this article.
Said article states that the Nikon D3 and D300, amongst others, are now supported. Now that is good news for people who bought the latest Nikon [...]

The shame: public BSODs

Sunday, February 10th, 2008, by moose

We are all (too) familiar with the infamous BSOD, Windows’ Blue Screen Of Death. We have seen it, experienced it on our PCs, it made us cry…
And we are also familiar with public shame, like farting in public, having your 5 year old telling you out loud how ugly the lady standing 5 feet [...]

Valentine Zune coming erhm later…

Saturday, February 9th, 2008, by moose

Microsoft says “sorry” with free Valentine’s Zune 80 players:
“Microsoft’s special Valentine’s Day edition of the Zune (Red Zune 80) is apparently more popular than the company expected. The Zune Originals creation that was announced just three weeks ago has already been through one announced product delay, but now it looks like Valentine’s Day will come [...]

Some logos grow well, some not so well

Friday, February 8th, 2008, by moose

Neatorama » Blog Archive » The Evolution of Tech Companies’ Logos:
“The first Apple logo was a complex picture of Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. The logo was inscribed: ‘Newton … A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought … Alone.’ It was designed by Ronald Wayne, who along with [...]

His master’s voice: a real (sub) woofer

Thursday, February 7th, 2008, by moose

HiFi speaker design has always been a weird discipline, especially when you go into the upper range stuff.
But this has to be the weirdest I’ve ever seen:

I don’t know how they SOUND but I know how they LOOK: butt ugly.
At least, for a mere $999 you get a pair of dogs you don’t need to [...]
