Friday, March 28th, 2008, by moose

So, Apple really DOES listen to its pro users, and has just released Aperture 2.1, a mere 6 weeks after 2.0 and two weeks after 2.0.1.
Let’s see what the 48MB update does for you:
[UPDATE: I noticed something: on my MacBook Pro, Aperture 2.1 now launches in like a couple dock bounces, it's almost instantaneous!]
[UPDATE 2: [...]

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - Forget about episodic content, here is episodic demo

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008, by moose

Look closely at the screenshot below, then click on it and look at its larger version, then at its fullsize 1080p version.

Now, forget about it because the actual game looks so much better that screenshots are rendered pointless.
I an talking about Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which has hit retail today (in Europe, it has been [...]

cnet blogger walks in store to get Blackberry, walks out with iPhone

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008, by moose

I can totally see his point…
The inevitability of the iPhone:
Unfortunately for Research in Motion, maker of the Blackberry, the in-store price for the 8820 was the same as the iPhone. I deliberated for all of three seconds and walked out with the iPhone.

Ars technica reviews Safari 3.1 for Windows, like it a lot

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008, by moose

Safari 3.1 on Windows: a true competitor arrives (seriously):
When 3.0 beta came out, it behaved like the Mac version, only allowing you to resize from the bottom-right corner. Apple heard the pleas. The Macintosh manufacturer wants Windows browser market share, and both Microsoft and Mozilla should be concerned now that Safari 3.1 shows that Apple [...]

Thursday, March 20th, 2008, by moose

So it happened this afternoon that I had my iPhone in my jeans front pocket and dug in to take it out.

I took out my hand and one of my fingers had a really nice and bloody crescent-shaped cut. It was actually bleedin quite a lot, not like great spurts of blood but still.

Spot the Idiot: BusinessWeek’s Roger L. Kay

Thursday, March 20th, 2008, by moose

Apple’s Icarus Effect:
But now Apple is becoming a victim of its own success, and the irony is just too great to miss. Anyone with a mild sense of history is keeping track. The main reason Apple had been left alone by hackers was not by virtue of any superior security technology, the company’s protestations to [...]

Do I sense some despair here? Definitely yes…

Adobe says Flash for iPhone coming soon with firmware 2.0:
“We believe Flash is synonymous with the Internet experience, and we are committed to bringing Flash to the iPhone,” Narayen said. “We have evaluated ( the software developer tools) and we think we can develop an iPhone Flash player ourselves.”

So it seems like Adobe, being threatened [...]

EMC to release new version of Retrospect for Macintosh as Universal Binary

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008, by moose

As I mentioned in my previous post, EMC (formerly Dantz) Retrospect is a serious, industrial-strength backup solution, that I have been using at work for quite a while, for backing up a mix of PCs and Macs.
Problem is, the Mac version has been languishing for literally years: the Mac version is 6.1 and has been [...]
