One of those mixed feelings days

by kurisu

I’m not really feeling great these days. I won’t go into details which would bore you, our 10 regular readers, but this morning, a bunch of weird stuff just came rushing as soon as I woke up my Mac, and that was just too much.
Adium launched, and I got an offline ICQ message from one of my good friends in Russia “Chris, i bought a mac mini. It’s soooo cooool!!!!

Well, now isn’t that something that makes you feel warm and fuzzy, given the totally unexpected aspect of the message?! That was great.

But of course, things can’t stay great, now, can they ? I guess over the years, I just lost faith in whatever powers affecting my life… This morning put a spring in my step, with the cherry blossom and all (I’ll try to take a pic for you guys, it was really nice), the message, my boss showing me how cool his iPod shuffle is… and then…
Kabloooeeee!!!!, that freaking java Citrix client I use to access our legacy apps in the office just crashes my Safari. Not just once, but all the time. A reboot won’t do, a cache purge of both Safari and Java 1.4.2 won’t do. So I decided to reinstall the java thingy, and now things work again.

Now, what kind of sick voodoo was at work here ? I’m too blasé to even bother checking and tinkering. But it cost me 30 minutes of my time, with the phones ringing, clients asking for info that I can’t get off of my own computer. Annoying.
no, scratch that, I was really P.O.’ed

So, after all went well again, I hop on Macnn.com, and what do I see ? Apple wants to charge 20 bucks for the upgrade of Logic and Logic Express, from 7.0.1 to 7.1.

I mean WTF. 20 bucks for a .1 upgrade ? after I spent 300 bucks on Logic Express 7.0 when it was released 4 months ago ?? That’s what I call STEALING.

Shame on you, APPLE ! what’s next ? paying 30 bucks for a 10.4.1 Tiger upgrade ? Chipping 99 cents to watch Steve Jobs do his keynote through iTunes? This is just so lowly and so lame. Great day, really.

Now where the hell is my Tiger ?

Did you check in your pants?
Silly jokes aside, this policy of paying upgrades reminds me of the nagging “Upgrade to Quicktime Pro” pop-up you get when you open QT player… and what “Pro” feature is playing fullscreen??? That’s more like a regular customer feature. That you have to pay for, say, being able to edit .mov files, exporting and such, maybe, ok, why not… but just for playing fullscreen? No way.
Well, regarding Logic Express I don’t care, the only music instrument I know how to use is iTunes ;-)
But it’s not going in a nice direction, for sure… What’s next? Audio ads squeezed in-between your tracks in iTunes?

    Here kitty, kitty, kitty…

And with all the anticipated baly-whoo-zitz stuff regarding OS-Tigre, how much will the gate be for Quicktime Pro…or will it come as a bundled freebie…meow?
